Joy in the Detail
Joy in the Detail, presented at the Crafts Study Centre in Farnham, celebrates the diverse and inventive work of the 62 Group of Textile Artists.
For the exhibition, artists were challenged to work at a limited scale, creating small two- or three-dimensional textile works, or exploring the possibilities of long, narrow ‘ribbons’. This restriction encouraged artists to consider scale as an integral part of their practice, allowing pattern, texture, folds, structure and material to take on new significance.
Across the exhibition, intricate combinations of colour, pattern and materials reveal the sculptural and expressive qualities of cloth. Inspired by personal, cultural and visual influences, the artists explore how small details can hold narrative, intimacy and meaning, revealing unexpected possibilities within textile practice.
